CONTEXT
The newly formed state of Chattisgarh in India, has witnessed large-scale industrial development due to its rich mineral deposits. A master plan for its new capital city (Naya Raipur) has been drawn up and a 350 acre plot of land was adopted by the Vedanta Group to develop a cancer hospital, with adjoining residential, teaching, wellness center & spa facilities on 50 acres, run purely as a philanthropic venture for a state where cancer has overtaken cardiac disease in terms of mortality rates. This hospital would be developed as a tertiary care center, linked to 5 secondary care centers, each served by 3 mobile units.
ACTION
A patient-centered hospital design was synergistically established as an outcome of a workshop organized and presided over by healthcare organizations, reputed doctors, government and private agencies, and architects. Hospital planning focusing on the physiological and psychological needs of the patient, simultaneously designing 3-dimensional synergistically established interconnectivity for patients, doctors, services and visitors.
A 500,000 Sq.ft area, 350 beds hospital was designed at an estimated cost of Rs. 1 billion. This tertiary care center is to be integrated with five secondary care centers and fifteen primary mobile vans spread throughout the state, catering primarily to patients affected by Cancer.
